Four-star Chris Jeffrey down to three, sets commitment date

Decision time has officially arrived for one of Maryland basketball’s top targets as Mount Zion (MD) guard Chris Jeffrey is set to announce his commitment next week.

Jeffrey, a 6-foot-3 guard originally from New York, is down to Maryland, Mississippi State and Texas A&M with plans to make his commitment next Wednesday, Oct. 2. Jeffrey was slated to officially visit Penn State last weekend before transitioning into decision mode, but the visit was canceled as the four-star narrowed in on his final group.

While Mississippi State and Texas A&M got a crack at hosting the top-75 prospect this summer, it was Maryland who hosted Jeffrey for his first official visit while he and his coaches returned to College Park to take in a workout weeks ago. While the chance to reunite with former high school teammate and current freshman Malachi Palmer carries weight, assistant Greg Manning Jr. has led the way with the longtime point guard target with the Terps entrenched in his top group.

“It felt really good being around them because they’re always at my games, so sitting down and getting to talk to them face-to-face was really good,” Jeffrey told IBG after his official visit. “It was great getting up there, getting to know the coaching staff a little bit more, seeing things that they do and how they differ from other colleges because they take their bodies way more serious to get to the next level. A lot of coaches prepare for right now but I could tell that Maryland, they’re preparing to get guys to the next level.”
