Four-star Cam Ward sets Maryland official, talks suitors, fall timeline

Head coach Kevin Willard has already hosted one 2025 target for an official visit when Mt. Zion Prep (MD) three-star Chris Jeffrey made his way to campus late last month, while local four-star Jordan Scott is set to officially visit Maryland in September. He won't be the only one as four-star forward Cam Ward has set his official visit to Maryland. Ward, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound forward out of Largo (MD), will kick off September with an official visit to Kansas State beginning September 7 then Michigan State on September 14. The top-50 prospect will then head to College Park for his official visit beginning June 21, the weekend when Maryland football hosts Villanova. Assistant David Cox has spearheaded efforts on the longtime local target, but the Terps are working to turn the tide heading into the fall. "With them it’s been going well. It’s been a little bit up-and-down," Ward told IBG. "It hasn’t been the best recruitment from them but they’ve been making a lot of things to try to make up for lost time so I can respect that. And also, I can also respect that it’s nothing lost. I can be like we can move past it and build the relationship from there." While head coach Kevin Willard was in attendance for Saturday's game vs. Mac Irvin Fire where Ward finished with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, the four-star added that increased contact from head coach Kevin Willard "would help." "Just hearing from him a little bit more would make it easier to make a decision. I’m not hearing from him as much, but they’re still in the picture." While he took a summer visit to Marquette back in late June, Ward will look to keep his recruitment open into October with a trio of SEC schools in the mix. "Mississippi State, Alabama and I think Vanderbilt. I might do them in October, but after that, that’ll probably end it. I think I’m going to do two or three more schools in October just to see a few more but other than that, that’ll probably be it,” he added. “I don’t think there’s much to be answered. I just think I’m going to take these visits, talk it over with my family and then decide from there.” Ward, who was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Maryland this spring, shined at Peach Jam this past weekend after averaging 26 points per game while shooting just shy of 82% from the field and 75% from three. He closed the weekend out with a 31-point performance on 12-of-14 shooting. Cam Ward is rated a four-star prospect and 95 overall by On3, checking in as the second-best prospect in Maryland in the 2025 cycle. Related Links
