Four-star Cam Ward includes Maryland in final four with commitment date set

As he nears the end of his recruitment, Largo (MD) four-star forward Cam Ward went forward with his final cut on Tuesday evening as Maryland, Michigan State, Virginia made the cut for the 6-foot-7 forward. Ward will decide between his finalists on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Maryland has been a longtime contender for Ward, the reigning DC Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 26 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.4 assists and 2.1 blocks per game as he led Largo to the 2A state championship. Assistant David Cox has led the way over the last two years with Ward, who noted his recruitment with the hometown team was “up-and-down” heading into his Maryland official visit on Sept. 21.

“They’ve been making a lot of things to try to make up for lost time so I can respect that. And also, I can also respect that it’s nothing lost. I can be like we can move past it and build the relationship from there."

Ward previously took an official visit to Marquette while he was considering official visits to both Alabama and Mississippi State before electing to trim down. Ahead of his official visit to Maryland, Ward took official visits to both Kansas State and Virginia before wrapping up his schedule with a trip to East Lansing to check out Michigan State this past weekend.

Cam Ward is rated a four-star and 94 overall by On3, checking in as the 62nd-best prospect in the 2025 class. Maryland already has a pair of commitments in the fold this cycle in four-star Chris Jeffrey and forward Marcus Jackson.

On3 Scouting Report

“Cam Ward has a great frame with good length and athleticism. The best part of his game might be his nose for production. Ward finds his way on the boards and is very opportune in finding scoring opportunities. Ware is at his best playing downhill toward the rim. He stretches his legs in transition and can finish above the rim in traffic. Would like to see him continue to develop more off the bounce, especially counters when his straight line path is cut off, and more consistency with the jump shot. Ward is a physical defender able to guard either forward position. He has produced, consistently, at each level.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
