Maryland has added another coveted local target after Friendship (DC) four-star defensive tackle Bryce Jenkins went public with his decision one week after telling the staff of his intention. Jenkins, a 6-foot-4, 325-pound lineman, committed to Maryland over Tennessee, Rutgers and South Carolina while fielding a double-digit offer list. Jenkins took official visits to each school with both the Gamecocks and Scarlet Knights emerging as wildcards in the race, but the local target made his way to Maryland for his vis beginning June 13 where defensive coordinators Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and Brian Williams rolled out the red carpet. Jenkins closed out the month with an official visit to Tennessee, where his dad once played for the Vols' basketball team in the late '80s, as they became a bigger factor down the stretch. But Maryland had made the hometown target a priority throughout the process, a message that resonated throughout his recruitment. “I like the feeling that I have when I go to Maryland,” Jenkins previously told IBG about his interest in Maryland. “It’s home but they make me feel at home already, so it’s a welcoming feeling.” Jenkins made his way to College Park for multiple spring practices, including when the Terps hit the road to his high school, before returning to campus for his June visit where he's spent ample time around the defensive line room. “It was good just to see everything come together for Maryland. I watched the whole defensive meeting then they split up, so I sat there with coach Williams in position meetings and watched how he works with his guys,” Jenkins told IBG. “I feel like it gave me an idea of how I fit in and coach Williams, coach Locksley, coach Abdul-Rahim, they’re saying I fit in perfectly with what they run.” Bryce Jenkins, who began his career at DeMatha before transferring over to Friendship, now becomes the highest-rated pledge in Maryland's class, which is now up to 20 verbal commitments with more top targets expected to announce heading into the rest of July. He also becomes the sixth pledge along the defensive line, joining Braheem Battles, Dante Recker, Nahsir Taylor, Donta Simpson and Delmar White. Bryce Jenkins is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, checking in as the third-best prospect in D.C. and the nation's 162nd-best prospect nationally.
