Four Prospects Set Visits to Maryland

St. Mary’s (MI) three-star linebacker Jordan Cannon will be on campus on Saturday, he told Inside the Black & Gold. Offensive coordinator Dan Enos has led the charge for the 5-foot-11, 210-pound linebacker after offering back on March 9. Though linebacker is not a pressing need for the Terps this cycle, Maryland has remained in the mix alongside Cincinnati, Michigan and Michigan State with Cannon set to bask in a busy June. The pair of in-state suitors in the Spartans and Wolverines are two schools to keep an eye on heading into summer as Cannon will unofficially visit Michigan State on Thursday. After Cannon posted 112 tackles as a sophomore, the emerging three-star has consistently earned high praise from his coaches.

“When he goes, he goes,” Porritt told the Detroit Free Press back in October. “He’s fast. It would be hard for me to compare him to any of the linebackers I’ve had in the past. It’s his burst that is impressive.”

But head coach Mark Turgeon is also busy building his visitor list for June as Blue Valley (KS) small forward Aidan Shaw confirmed his official visit beginning June 28. The 6-foot-8, 190-pound prospect is now the third known forward to make his way through College Park as the staff will host four-stars Cam Whitmore (official), JJ Starling, and Tyrell Ward (unofficial) beginning Friday, but Ward has remained a steady target for Maryland since last month’s offer.

“I’ve been talking to them for the past month or two so we were developing the relationship. I wasn’t expecting it, though, but that’s how most of the offers work,” Shaw told Inside the Black & Gold last month. It was new assistant Danny Manning who made it known that Shaw is a need in College Park.

“I plan on asking about his experience and coaching and all that when we talk next. He said he really liked the way I play and thinks I can fit in the program. I stick out to him and that’s why he was recruiting and obviously, why they offered. They trust me to be a part of the program and fill a spot for them.”

Maryland will also host Brewster Academy (MA) four-star point guard Dasonte Bowen for an official visit beginning June 28, his coach tells Inside the Black & Gold. Despite a commitment from Bishop O’Connell point guard Paul Lewis, Terps jumped into the mix back in mid-April as head coach Mark Turgeon prioritizes adding another point guard on the roster.

Shaw also has official visits set to Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma State.

2023 DeMatha five-star defensive end Jason Moore, younger brother of Villanova guard Justin Moore, also reached out to Inside the Black & Gold on Wednesday night that he is set to visit Maryland on Friday. June 4 shaping up for a big day for Terps’ recruiting.

Neither Cannon nor Shaw has a hard timetable for a commitment timeline. Moore’s recruitment is in the early stages.

Cannon is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the nation’s 111th best linebacker.

Moore is rated a five-star composite, but four-star by 247Sports and a 94 overall, still sitting as the nation’s 18th-best prospect.
