Maryland added a portal addition on Wednesday morning with former Texas A&M and Rice guard Jordan Williams signed, first reported by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. But Williams will not arrive in College Park to play for head coach Buzz Williams again as a source tells IBG that he has signed with Maryland football and is expected to play linebacker in 2026.
Williams began his college career at Texas A&M under Williams where he redshirted before transferring to Vanderbilt for the next two seasons, playing in 37 games and starting ten games over that span. After transferring to Rice for the 2025-26 season, Williams missed 17 games due to injury after averaging two points and 1.6 rebounds as a redshirt junior.
He now heads to College Park with one year of eligibility remaining while he becomes the second transfer portal addition at the position, joining VMI transfer Stephen Dean III who committed earlier this spring.
Maryland also returns veteran linebacker Daniel Wingate to anchor the unit heading into the 2026 season, becoming the latest addition in what should be a front seven with depth under defensive coordinator Ted Monachino.
While it marks a shift for Williams, it gives the former All-State prospect a chance to suit back up. His father is Jermaine Williams, who spent five seasons in the NFL as a running back while his older brother is former LSU and current Tampa Bay running back Josh Williams. As for Jordan himself, he ended his high school career being named the VYPE State MVP in football.
