Former Maryland football WR Tai Felton talks NFL Draft process, Maryland memories with Nick Cross on GMFB

With the 2025 NFL Draft just eight days away, former Maryland wide receiver Tai Felton became the latest Terp to join the Good Morning Football set as former Maryland safety Dante Trader Jr. joined as a guest earlier in the week with former Maryland safety Nick Cross filling in as a guest through the week. Felton dives into the NFL Draft process, his most recent visit to Green Bay this week, which teams he’s spoken with while he recalls his favorite memory teaming up with Nick Cross in College Park:

On his meeting with the Green Bay Packers on Monday

“100%, it was awesome, man, just getting out there and seeing the historical stadium they have, getting to meet the coaches and stuff of that nature. So it was kind of surreal for me, because I remember being a little kid watching [Aaron Rodgers] playing there with Davonte Adams and tearing things up in that stadium. So being on the field, it was definitely surreal. And just getting the atmosphere, getting the feel. There were a couple fans out there saying, Go Pack, go, and I could hear it like echo in the stadium. So it was awesome getting around that organization, getting to meet everybody. And it was definitely a good time.”

On the feeling of being in Lambeau Field on a draft prospect visit

“I felt it, man. It brought me back to my old days watching the playoffs when it was cold and the stadium was packed out. It gave you, like, college vibes a little bit, because in Green Bay, everything – you were there man so you know everything is football, man. So it was definitely a historical moment just being out there and seeing the stadium, because it's so many memories that I remember watching growing up and seeing A-Rod and all those guys you talked about, so definitely surreal.”

On which NFL teams he’s spoken with during the NFL Draft process

“I've been in and out a lot of buildings. I probably met with like 22 teams now, just between private workouts, steak dinner, stuff of that nature, man. But definitely the Commanders and Ravens, two hometown teams, for sure. I've been talking to them a lot. I talked to the Giants a lot too, as well. The Rams. So it's been a lot all over the place. I've been talking to a lot of teams, but I've been enjoying the process, man. I've been growing up watching this stuff and watching the Senior Bowl, watching the combine. So like I said before, man, it’s surreal so I'm enjoying the process 100%.”

On his 4.37 40-yard dash time, what else Felton wants scouts and GMs to know

“I'm just an all-around football player. If you watch my tape, I'm running down on special teams, running down kickoff, gunner, making plays, making tackles, punt return, kick return. Then receiver-wise man, feel like I'm a three-level receiver. I can get it done on all levels. So definitely just my love for the game, and I'm willing to do anything to help the team contribute and stuff of that nature. So love for the game and my competitiveness 100%.”

What Felton credits to his senior year success, uptick in production

“I would just say work ethic, 100%. You know being at Maryland, man, we had a lot of guys that were pushing us to be better, such as coaches and other teammates. But work ethic, getting on the jugs, get on the tennis ball machine, taking care of my body, anything of that nature, man. So definitely just trying to have that Mamba-like mentality, one of my favorite athletes growing up, Kobe Bryant, that Mamba-like mentality, going out there on the field and having that mentality dominating whatever I'm doing. So I would say mentality and work ethic 100%.”

On the relationship between Felton and Nick Cross

“He’s a goofball. Goofball, 100%. At practice we were always running around. He was always trying to tackle me, making jokes and stuff like that, but that one play after practice, he definitely tried to take me out and I caught the ball and stayed out the way. So I don't know what he's talking about with that one, but we gotta pull the clip up with that.”

Nick Cross: “Let me tell you the story. We're practicing to go play Penn State. And at this point, Tai is a freshman and I'm playing center field. Ball goes up in there, I'm going to go get it. And you know how the rule is, whoever’s period it is is supposed to get the ball. Tai’s young. He's gonna go compete and everything. I think at the time he might have had two left feet or something, falls down, I'm tracking the ball, hits me right in my hip. I fall down. I'm in pain. He thinks – he says he caught the ball. I don't know and I didn't care at the time. I thought I was done for the day.”

On why Kobe Bryant is Felton’s favorite athlete

“Just his mentality on and off the court, how he was always trying to dominate and the work ethic he had. Just stories to him, and he used to know how the ball would sound every time he would bounce the ball on the court and stuff of that nature. So it's how dialed in he was into his craft and into the game and trying to get 1% better every day. So I try to implement that in my game as well because I love seeing how hard he worked and stuff of that nature. So it definitely is huge to me.”

On his NFL Draft day plans

“I'm going to have a lot of friends and family with me. I was really born in Riverside, California, so a lot of my family from California is coming. I have a lot of Atlanta and Georgia family coming up too. So it's gonna be a good time. I've been waiting like, 17, 18 years for this moment. Now I'm like a week away, so it's definitely crazy, but it'll be a good time being with friends and family, enjoying the moment and soaking it.”

On who was Felton’s favorite WR to watch growing up

“Oh, Julio Jones. 100%. Yeah, I grew up watching the Falcons, so watching Julio at Bama and seeing him go to the Falcons and doing what he did, it definitely was huge to me and I definitely grew up watching him.”

On whether Felton has visited the Colts

“No, I've been talking to them. I’ve talked to them a few times, but I haven't visited there.”
