After Maryland wrapped up a pair of high school official visits over the weekend, the Terps will welcome a larger slate of official visitors this upcoming weekend as Chaminade-Madonna (FL) defensive lineman Donta Simpson is expected to return to Maryland this upcoming weekend. This weekend will mark the first of three official visits for Simpson, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound lineman. After checking out Maryland the weekend of June 7, Simpson will head to in-state Florida Atlantic next weekend before wrapping up the month with a trip to West Virginia the weekend of June 21. Simpson was back in College Park for the spring game in late April and with defensive line coach and lead recruiter Brian Williams at the forefront of the Terps' efforts, it's clear why his interest has steadily risen through the spring. "We get along because we're both from Florida. We just click up more easily than other coaches," he told IBG. "It's like a lot of people like me up there. I don't feel different. I love the vibes up there. And the facilities up there are really good." While Simpson was able to connect with second-year defensive lineman Jordan Phillips on campus, his friendship with second-year Maryland OL and former high school teammate, Deandre Duffus, has been a bonus in the Terps' corner. "He said it's good, he loves it and Maryland is about to start building a good dynasty up there. I'm trying to be part of it." Temple, Minnesota and SMU are among the double-digit offers for Simpson while NC State and Illinois were involved, but a decision is looming following his round of visits. "I'm taking these three then I'm planning to commit." Donta Simpson posted 43 tackles, 19.5 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, three force fumbles and a pair of recoveries as Chaminade-Madonna repeated as state champions in 2023. He is not yet rated by On3.
