Maryland now has their second commitment in the 2024 class. Wharton (FL) three-star running back Terek McCant has committed to Maryland, he announced. McCant, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound running back, announced a top ten including Arizona, Arkansas, Florida A&M, Indiana, Kansas State, Maryland, Ole Miss, Oregon State, South Florida, and TCU almost exactly one month ago. Though the Florida speedster has not been back to College Park since his freshman year of high school, inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson led McCant’s recruitment to pave the way for Tuesday's commitment. “I haven’t been up there in a while but the coaches make me feel welcome,” McCant told IBG. “I feel part of their program. I feel like I fit in their system well. I’m just ready to finish this high school season and get up there in College Park." It may not be long until McCant is back on campus either with an unofficial visit set for April 8. "I’m about to visit pretty soon. I have an official in June but I’ll probably take an unofficial before that too.” McCant joins the program as an athlete where he can fit the mold of a slot receiver while lining up in the backfield, giving the offense a speedster to move around. “Kind of like an Alvin Kamara, Tony Pollard type,” McCant added. McCant joins Fursty (GERM) three-star linebacker Justin Okoronkwo as early commitments in the 2024 class. In four games as a junior, McCant posted 133 rushing yards along with 188 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 19 catches. McCant also finished with 737 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns, while he also posted an 11.56 second time in the 100 meter, both during his sophomore season. McCant is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by On3, sitting as the 118th-best running back in the country.
