DALLAS, Texas. – University of Maryland senior running back Tayon Fleet-Davis has been selected as a preseason candidate for the 2021 Doak Walker Award, it was announced on Wednesday. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate running back.
Fleet-Davis is the second Maryland running back in three years to be named to the watch list as Anthony McFarland Jr. was on the 2019 preseason list. Fleet-Davis has played in 29 career games for the Terps, rushing for 619 yards and scoring 10 total touchdowns. The versatile back also has 244 receiving yards and averages 12.2 yards per reception during his career.
Ten semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award will be named in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced later that month. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient.
The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2021 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards.
Fleet-Davis and Terps open the 2021 season at home against West Virginia on September 4.
