Elite local DE talks up Terps, ready to trim list

2023 DeMatha (MD) top-50 prospect Jason Moore propelled the Stags’ defense on Saturday afternoon in a 31-6 win over Bishop McNamara. DeMatha will move ahead to a big WCAC matchup against St. John’s next weekend, but Moore was pleased with his team’s performance in the second half.

“We started off real slow. We had a slow week in practice, but we picked it up in the second half and picked it up with the win,” Moore told Inside the Black and Gold. “Just the defense leading to great offense.”

As for recruiting, Moore has taken in a pair of schools for visits since the summer with Maryland the lone school to host him twice. The four-star prospect was in town for the season-opening win against West Virginia and has the Terps on his radar. “It’s a lot of hospitality, the hometown team. That was my second time seeing the coaches in person, so we just keep building the relationship. They really get after the quarterback, long distance downs. They make a lot of subs and get pressure, so I like that.”

The connections between the two sides are well-developed with Elijah Brooks on the staff and Maryland is doing what they can to keep the four-star home. “Just come in and be that hometown here. Stay close to home. They do show me a lot of love and I appreciate it. They’re definitely towards the top.”

Moore also made it to Happy Valley for their White Out win over Auburn and they didn’t disappoint. “Great environment. Fans showed a lot of love, coaches showed a lot of love. That was my first time getting out there, so it was a great experience.” Penn State has one of Moore’s teammates already committed with other former Stags in the program offering their reviews. “Every single of one of them, they tell me it’s an experience I don’t want to miss. They really love it there, they really set a good standard.”

Moore’s next step is venturing out to more schools, and he’ll do so later this month when the Irish host North Carolina.

“I’ll be at Notre Dame on the 30th and I plan to get to Michigan sometime.”

In addition to Maryland, Penn State, Notre Dame and Michigan, Moore says two more schools have been most consistent with him.

“I’d say LSU, USC are showing a lot of love consistently.” A commitment isn’t on the horizon, but he does have a timeframe to release his top group of schools.

“I’m expecting a top list to come sometime after the season.”

Moore is rated a four-star prospect and a 94 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the top prospect in Maryland and 32nd nationally.
