TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – University of Maryland senior wide receiver Dontay Demus Jr. has been named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced on Thursday. The Biletnikoff Award recognizes the nation's most outstanding collegiate receiver.
Demus Jr. is the first Maryland wide receiver to be named a preseason Biletnikoff candidate since Stefon Diggs earned a spot on the watch list in back-to-back years in 2013 & 2014. DJ Moore was added to the watch list midseason in 2017.
A 2020 All-Big Ten selection, Demus Jr. led the Terps in receptions (24), receiving yards (365) and receiving touchdowns (4) while starting all five games he played during his junior season. Demus hauled in a touchdown reception in four straight games to end the year, which was the longest active streak among any Power Five wide receiver in the nation at the time.
Demus Jr. enters his senior season with 78 receptions for 1,268 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. He’s currently tied for the 11th most touchdown grabs in program history. With one more receiving touchdown, Demus Jr. will move to ninth all-time at Maryland, tying Marcus Badgett (1989-92) and Barry Johnson (1987-90).
The 2021 Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced live on December 9 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will be broadcast on ESPN. Semifinalists will be announced on November 22 with the three finalists being named on November 29.
