Maryland now has a bit of momentum on the recruiting trail after DeMatha (MD) offensive tackle Terez Davis announced his commitment to Maryland over Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Virginia Tech among others. Davis becomes the Terps their fifth pledge and second in-state pledge in the Terps’ 2024 class. Davis unofficially visited Maryland last Friday before returning to campus again on Saturday with the Stags on campus for the 7-on-7 tournament as the local tackle target was able to reconnect with the offensive staff, including head coach Mike Locksley. “I met all the coaches. I was talking to all the coaches for a while. Coach Braswell, coach Gattis. Today I was working out a little bit with coach Gattis, coach Braswell and coach Sumlin a little bit just like on the side doing some stuff,” Davis said last weekend. “They taught me some stuff that I can take with me throughout my college career no matter what so it was exciting getting some D1 knowledge, what they do and how they get better. Some stuff I can take with me going into my season.” Davis originally planned to officially visit Georgia Tech this weekend before an official visit to Syracuse next weekend, while Maryland replaced Virginia Tech for the June 23rd weekend following last weekend’s visit. As it turned out, an official visit wasn’t needed for Davis to become the latest to join the fold as his extended sit down with Locksley on both days left the 6-foot-7 tackle with a strong impression of his future head coach. “I feel like meeting coach Locksley, head coaching-wise, one of the best head coaches I’ve ever met. Him and Dino Babers. It’s something about him. I think it’s his personality but he’s very genuine. There are also not a lot of black head coaches in college football, so that’s part of it. That’s a great accomplishment, but just his genuineness, his love for the players, how he communicates, he’s just a really good head coach.” Davis also becomes the first offensive line commitment for Maryland this cycle, giving the unit a big-framed, athletic piece. Davis lined up as a defensive end and tight end for the Stags as a junior, but with the 6-foot-7 frame, made the offseason transition to the offensive line where he’s added mass to become the Stags’ starting tackle this fall. Davis also becomes the first DeMatha product to commit to Maryland football since Nick Cross back in 2019. Davis is not yet rated by On3. Related Links
