DeMatha (MD) three-star linebacker Noah Chambers is officially down to a final two with Maryland and Virginia Tech jockeying for position. Maryland will be the first school to host the 6-foot-1, 216-pound linebacker the weekend of June 14 as the staff has prioritized the local product through the spring. After extending an offer after Chambers’ junior season, assistants Kevin Sumlin and Aazaar Abdul-Rahim teamed up to make the Terps a finalist. “It’s picked up the last couple of months but I’m building the relationship with them faster. Coach Sumlin got on me, coach Aazaar got on me. I’ve been talking to coach Locksley,” Chambers told IBG. “It’s hometown. They definitely welcome me, feel like it’s home so I’ll see where everything leads me on my official visit.” Chambers was last on campus for the spring game, but was able to make the trip to College Park in the spring to spend time with assistant coach Lance Thompson to get a better understanding of his fit as an inside linebacker. “We’ve been talking. I’ve had meetings with him with the linebackers going over plays, watching practice, film, see what you should and shouldn’t do.” Virginia Tech has been on Chambers through his junior season with current Hokies assistant Elijah Brooks leading the way, and the length of his pursuit hasn’t gone unnoticed. “They were like the first ones basically one me, coach Brooks. We have a very close relationship, that’s my guy. Going in there possibly playing the STAR, MIKE or WILL position, but I like that coach Brooks got on me really early.” Chambers originally had plans to officially visit Liberty, but that’s since been cancelled as he focuses on his finalists. “Maryland, it’s hometown so I’ll always have love for Maryland. Virginia Tech, I like them a lot. It’s hard to explain it but I’ve got a really close bond with them. The coaches are really on me and building the relationship so it’s helping me decide where I want to be.” He explains how he plans to separate the two regional rivals. “What position they have for me come in and play the best. My main focus is coming in and playing so who would develop me the best as a player and a man. But I know when I’m at one, they’re going to try to get me to commit as soon as possible so we’ll see.” Noah Chambers is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, checking in as the 28th-best prospect in Maryland.
