DeMatha DL Makes First Trip with Offer in Hand

DeMatha (MD) defensive tackle Emmett Laws has been to Maryland several times through the years, but last Saturday’s visit to College Park was his first with an offer from the Terps. The 6-foot-1, 275-pound defensive tackle got a chance to see everything as a fresher before checking out the game. “I’ve been to all the facilities and stuff like that but I had a good time,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. Laws stayed for the full game and took notice of the 75 yards of offense that the Maryland defense allowed in the second half. I was watching the line but the defense was shut out. They were like that.” But Laws also had criticism from the gameday experience. “The thing that I didn’t find so good was the stadium wasn’t really packed like it usually would be.” Does that impact his perspective of Maryland? “A little bit.” Still, Laws took note of the positional fit as a defensive tackle and got a chance to talk with running backs coach Elijah Brooks, who offered last Tuesday. “He told me to keep putting in the good work in. Always good seeing him. We talk every now and then.” With offers from USF, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Boston College, he’ll look to visit Indiana, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia with a possible return to Maryland. There’s still something to like about Maryland in Laws’s eyes. “I love Maryland. They treat me right. I definitely like the people, the people are good. Maryland is good in my book. Laws is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 15th-best prospect in Maryland.
