Decision day arrives for four-star Sebastian Wilkins, set to announce between Maryland and Duke

Decision day has arrived for top Maryland target and Brewster Academy (NH) four-star Sebastian Wilkins.

Wilkins, a 6-foot-8 forward who also stars for Mass Rivals, is set to decide at 4 PM on Friday between a final two including Maryland and Duke after watching his recruitment pivot over the last two months.

The Brewster Academy standout arrived at Maryland for an official visit beginning April 15, becoming the first high school target to visit Maryland under the Buzz Williams era, as the new staff looked to iron out the 2025-26 frontcourt with a significant role to pitch to the reclass candidate. Wilkins, who also officially visited Texas A&M under Buzz Williams, also arrived on campus alongside former AAU teammate and new Maryland wing, George Turkson, while assistant and Mass Rivals alum Wabissa Bede led the way to give the Terps deep rooted connections behind the strength of their relationship.

But Duke wouldn’t go down without a fight after jumping in with an offer in late April, an offer that set the stage for the Blue Devils to host him for an official visit beginning May 5. The Blue Devils have since landed Italian guard Dame Sarr over Kansas, while head coach Jon Scheyer bypassed on former West Virginia pledge Braydon Hawthorne despite being a finalized as the four-star announced his commitment to Kentucky earlier this week. With Wilkins a priority for the Blue Devils, Maryland will look to pull off the upset behind its attractive role and deep-rooted connections involved in his recruitment.

Maryland and Duke have not faced each other since the Blue Devils cheated in the last matchup between the ACC rivals back in 2014, a two-point loss despite the Blue Devils getting an extra possession after the possession arrow failed to switch following the U-8 timeout in the second half.

Leading Brewster Academy, Wilkins shined at the Chipotle Nationals in early April after posting 22 points and 13 rebounds in a win vs. CIA-Bella Vista to open the tournament. Brewster then fell in round two after Cayden Boozer’s buzzer beater lifted top-seeded Christopher Columbus High School over Brewster despite 14 points and game-high 12 rebounds from Wilkins. Wilkins was named one of 15 standouts from the tournament by ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, while he was previously named a First Team All-Conference selection in the EYBL.

“This is my 25th year at Brewster and Sebastian is probably one of my favorite guys to coach,” Brewster Academy Jason Smith told Mass Live back in January. “He’s mature beyond his years...he reminds me a lot of a former player I had years ago named Melvin Ejim. Melvin Ejim came off the bench the bench for us for two years, never complained. Was a captain, high energy, finished every game but didn’t start.”

Maryland has already announced all but one of their transfer portal commits, while the program has also already announced the signings of their pair of high school targets in Guillermo Del Pino and Darius Adams.

Sebastian Wilkins is rated a four-star and 95 overall by On3.
