DC safety comfortable with one official visit set heading into signing day

St. John’s (DC) saw their season end at the hands of DeMatha last weekend in a 21-3 loss, setting up a WCAC championship game between the Stags and Good Counsel next week. As for three-star safety Shamar McIntosh, the end of his high school career now means that recruiting becomes a priority over the next month. McIntosh has been solidly on the Terps’ board after visiting for the Virginia game, and weeks after tight ends coach Kevin Sumlin watched the 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety in person, he’s set to officially visit Maryland the weekend of December 8. “That’s the only one set so far,” McIntosh told IBG. “I feel like the relationship just keeps getting better and better every time I speak with Maryland. They’ve got a lot of guys who’ve kept in close touch with me so I’ve noticed that.” Defensive coordinator Brian Williams is at the forefront of the Terps’ efforts and their connection, along with his fit in the defense, have the Terps well-positioned heading down the stretch. “As a safety and the safeties they’ve got now, I feel like it’s a good fit and the perfect role so I can step in to replace them when the time comes if I go there. been texting my coaches and stuff about me a lot too.” McIntosh has also been able to build a connection with safeties coach Zac Spavital. “When I go up there, we’ve talked and whenever we do it’s always been good conversation,” he added. Boston College, Pitt and West Virginia are among the verbal offers for the D.C. three-star, but despite hearing from new schools since releasing his senior year tape, McIntosh’s focus is on one official visit down the stretch. “I’m just trying to do Maryland and see how it goes. A lot of schools have been reaching out and texting my coach.” Before that, the DC safety will head to College Park this weekend when second-ranked Michigan heads to town. Could McIntosh opt to pull the trigger after just one official visit? “Definitely.” Shamar McIntosh is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by On3, sitting as the seventh-best player in DC.
