Concordia Prep OLB Sidney Stewart becomes latest local Maryland commit

Concordia Prep (FL) three-star outside linebacker Sidney Stewart becomes the latest commitment in Maryland’s 2025 class, committing to Maryland over Indiana, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. Stewart, a 6-foot-2, 255-pound outside linebacker, gave his verbal to Maryland following the end of his official visit beginning June 21 as assistant James Thomas led the way through the spring with Brian Braswell chipping in as the area recruiter. “Maryland man, it’s home,” Stewart told IBG. Maryland ramped up efforts with the college-ready outside linebacker target through the spring, quickly evolving into a legitimate player in his recruitment ahead of his official visits. “I mainly talk to coach and coach Braswell. I’ve known coach Braswell since sophomore year and he’s always been a funny, cool guy. Obviously you want good energy around you, even though he’s not my position coach, that’s something that I look for so I’ve always appreciated that. Coach JT, he’s my position coach and I’ve gotten to know him more so I’m glad I was able to gel with him too.” Stewart made his way to College Park in the spring to acclimate himself with the defense before returning for his late June official visit when the outside linebacker target got a chance to delve into his fit as a potential Kellan Wyatt replacement. “I definitely felt like fortunately, especially being around the guys like coach Dan and my coaches, I definitely felt like it wouldn’t be too hard of a transition. Specific scheme-wise I would have to learn but think I would like this place while I was there." The Baltimore native spent the weekend with Daniel Owens, who also trains with Concordia Prep assistant Dan Yarborough as the two friends reconnected. “He’s funny. Especially energy-wise, D.O. lights up a room. Even if we weren’t cool, I feel like we would’ve got cool on the visit ASAP. He’s a great dude, honestly.” Stewart also got a chance to spend ample time around head coach Mike Locksley and the defensive staff. "If there was a highlight, sometimes there could be a downside or flip side but this visit was good the whole time,” he said of his official visit. Sidney Stewart becomes the first outside linebacker commit of the cycle while St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) ILB Travares Daniels went public on Friday and Maury (VA) three-star CJ Smith announced his pledge back in March. Maryland is now up to 16 commitments in the 2025 class with several more targets expected to make their decisions in the coming weeks. He is not yet rated by On3.
