Colorado Tackle Set to Commit

Cherokee Trail (CO) three-star offensive tackle Travis Gray will announce his commitment on Wednesday, August 4 among a top three of Arizona, Colorado, and Maryland.

It has long been a two-team race for the 6-foot-6, 285-pound tackle target as Maryland and Arizona both played host for an official visit back in June. Gray also took in unofficial visits to both schools back in the spring, though both were cut short due to non-football reasons. Offensive tackle has been a position of focus for the staff to close out the 2022 cycle as Gray has remained a consistent target for offensive line coach Brian Braswell.

The staff has leaned on several Zoom meetings to acclimate him to the program and the new Jones-Hill House was the highlight of his June official to campus. “For Maryland, what sticks out is the new facility,” Gray said last month. “I loved the new facility and touring it, the football weight room, nutrition is a huge thing for offensive lineman and with that, the coaches. Coach Braswell has been a huge part in my recruiting process, he’s gotten me better. He has given me drills that I can do at home so that I can perfect my offensive line stance. I love Maryland, it’s a really special place.”

Colorado is the newest school in the mix for Gray as they hosted the three-star prospect this past week for an unofficial visit. Home to his dad’s alma mater, Gray has become gradually receptive to the hometown team. “I love being with family. I have family down here in Colorado and that’s why they’re in my top three. My dad went there, he’s an alum and he’s been there. My friend also committed to Colorado so he’s pushing me, my trainer is pushing me to Colorado so I love the family experience and if I decide to go there, I’ll have people that I know and that I’ll be comfortable with.”

The 247Sports crystal ball points to Arizona as the favorite, though Colorado has quietly risen on Gray’s leaderboard.
