Coaches Hit The Road To Wrap Up Bye Week

After practice on Thursday, the Terps' staff hit the road in the evening where the staff will return to campus on Sunday to prepare for next weekend's road game against Wisconsin. While Maryland sits comfortably with its 21 current commitments in the 2023 class, the staff will check on a handful of new and existing targets heading into the home stretch of the cycle. Maryland will be in attendance for Coffeyville (KS) to check out their big matchup against Butler this Saturday with safeties coach Wes Neighbors and offensive line coach Brian Braswell making a stop through. Maryland recently jumped into the mix for offensive tackle Keyshawn Blackstock and have long been after Bishop Fitzgerald, who fits as a safety, whose been able to build a close relationship with Neighbors. “He’s telling me about the fact that he needs someone that can come in and make an immediate impact and he says he feels like I can be that guy,” he told Inside the Black and Gold this week. Before then, Maryland will also stop through Hutchinson (KS) to check on Florida State verbal and three-star defensive end Jaden Jones. He’s sidelined for the remainder of the fall after suffering a torn ACL, but the Terps haven’t been spooked by that and have remained in contact. Jones is expected to officially visit Maryland the weekend of December 9. After stopping through the jucos, Braswell will make a quick trip down to Georgia though mainly due to the Terps looking to make appearances at key high schools. That’s also much of what wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer will do while through Virginia on Thursday, stopping through Byrd, Hopewell, Manchester, Matoaca, Thomas Dale and Collegiate. Brewer will head to North Carolina on Friday, while tight ends coach Mike Miller will make the trip to Pennsylvania where he’ll check out three-star verbal Braeden Wisloski as he’s exploding through his senior season. Meanwhile, a large group will be down in Florida as offensive coordinator Dan Enos, defensive coordinator Brian Williams, outside linebacker coach James Thomas make the trip down to Florida. Maryland will get a chance to check out Markus Strong, a defensive end from Union City (FL) who is primarily looking at Maryland, UCF and USF. His midseason tape has elevated his status down the stretch with a need to likely replace all three starting defensive linemen next season. Another who fits the bill and will get a visit from the staff this weekend is Andrew Rumph. After officially visiting back in June, the Terps made the top four for the Florida lineman and contact was strong, but gradually fell off as the two sides lost touch. That’s picked back up and Rumph is slated to return the favor with an official visit with a handful of teammates for the Ohio State game, a visitor list that’s shaping up to be arguably the largest since the beginning of the Locksley era. Another who the staff will check on is IMG Academy (FL) fringe four-star edge rusher Cam Lenhardt, who is viewed as a piece to help the Terps set the edge next season. There’s a decent chance that Nchami returns next fall, but they’ll need a second as Lenhardt could fit in best as an outside ‘backer. Cornerbacks coach Henry Baker made the trip to Christ the King last weekend, but he’ll head to Union City (NJ) and Irvington (NJ) while making a stop at St. Joseph Regional (NJ) to check on fringe four-star running back Yasin Willis, a priority target out of New Jersey next cycle, with running backs coach Elijah Brooks making the trip as well.
