Churchill (MD) wide receiver Ezekiel Avit has announced his commitment to Maryland, becoming the 21st commitment for the Terps this cycle. The 6-foot-1 wideout camped at Maryland twice back in June before drawing an offer on June 24. The staff followed through on an official offer on August 1 with wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer and outside linebackers coach James Thomas leading the charge. Avit then visited Maryland for their season-opening win over Buffalo, the day he gave his commitment to the staff. He returned to campus for both the SMU and Michigan State wins, announcing his commitment shortly after the Terps first Big Ten home game. “They’ve been really persistent and coach Brewer sees a big player in me and he’s given me hope in football,” he told Inside the Black and Gold ahead of his decision. “The second he saw me, he was excited and he told me I have a future in football and he can get me where I want to be, so I trust him a lot.” https://twitter.com/EzekielAvit/status/1563009323936415744 The two-sport athlete also shines on the hardwood where he stars for Churchill and helped lead his team to the state championship game, also suiting up for Global Squad in AAU. But with football now in his future, Avit has his future goals set on the gridiron. “I’m trying to be MoCo Player of the Year and have the most receptions, but I can’t do that without my team. I’m trying to get farther in the playoffs.” Ohio, Penn State and Virginia Tech all showed interest in Avit with the Nittany Lions hoping to get him on campus following the July dead period, but Avit had a stronger desire to visit Maryland instead. He now becomes the seventh in-state pledge for Maryland this cycle. “I enjoy that I can stay at home and be close to my family.” Avit is not yet rated by On3.
