Buzz Williams, Maryland basketball make cut for top-20 2026 target

Maryland men’s basketball’s backcourt recruiting board dwindled through the fall after Trey Beamer and Anthony Brown came off the board to Boston College and Vanderbilt, but head coach Buzz Williams and the staff remain in the mix for one of the nation’s best point guard prospects in the 2026 class.

Bella Vista Prep (AZ) four-star Miles Sadler, ranked the 20th-best prospect in On3’s national rankings, trimmed his list to a final six on Wednesday including Maryland, Oklahoma, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and West Virginia. Sadler took an official visit to Tennessee back in July when head coach Rick Barnes pointed to filling Ja’Kobi Gillespie’s shoes, while the four-star took an official to Oklahoma on Oct. 21 and West Virginia on Oct. 25. Sadler also took a summer official visit to UCSB, but have since been eliminated.

As a ajunior, Sadler averaged 16.1 points, 4.7 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 48.4% from the field during the summer.

Whether Sadler finalizes a visit to Maryland remains to be seen with both UCLA and USC inside the top group despite not yet hosting him for an official visit. West Virginia’s ties to the four-star has cemented them as a contender coming out of the weekend, but Sadler has kept consistent with a winter commitment timeline with his senior season approaching, though no date has been finalized with his finalists revealed. Still, the point guard out of Ontario, Canada serves as the latest target with the backcourt set to lose Diggy Coit to graduation following the 2025-26 season.

Maryland remains heavily involved with five-star Baba Oladotun coming off his official visits to Kentucky and Arkansas as the staff enters November with a pair of commitments in the fold in three-star Austin Brown and four-star Adama Tambedou.
