Alabama Receiver Set to Officially Visit Maryland

A pair of priority targets will officially visit Maryland this weekend when four-star receiver Shaleak Knotts and three-star cornerback Mansoor Delane make their way to College Park. But a third target emerged this month in Calera (AL) three-star receiver Kobe Prentice as the slot receiver tells Inside the Black & Gold that he’ll head to Maryland on Friday for his second official visit.

“I’m all set for this weekend,” Prentice added. Maryland uncovered Prentice during the Sunshine Showcase Mega Camp back on June 6 as tight ends coach Mike Miller has led the charge. Prentice has flashed his speed with sub-4.5 40-yard dash as the Terps view him as a slot receiver target. “They like my speed and how I can create separation on my routes. They text me about every day.” Though Prentice has only been able to Facetime with the staff to date, he’s drawn a positive impression of the staff heading into this weekend.

“They seem real compassionate and real caring about their players so far.” Prentice has been able to get to know Miller on a personal level as well. “It’s pretty tight. We talk like every other day, always staying in contact so I like that. I’ve noticed so far that he’s just a cool guy.”

Prentice took his first official visit to Coastal Carolina back on June 18 while he worked out for the Florida State staff on Monday. After Washington State, Kansas State, Arizona State, and Mississippi State extended offers this month, Prentice told Inside the Black and Gold that Alabama and South Carolina are the newest schools to start showing interest. But the Terps pulled the trigger on an offer back on June 6 as Prentice knows what he’s looking into when he steps onto campus.

“I ask about their business school because I’m trying to major in real estate. I ask about roster spots and how many they have on the roster, how many they’re trying to take.” Though he, Mike Miller, and wide receiver coach Zohn Burden will look to delve into the fit on the field further, he has a loose understanding of why the Terps fit what the slot receiver is looking for.

“I’m familiar with the offense and I know their quarterback because he went to high school right up the street from me, so I know him. And I know the coaches they have, some of them came from ‘Bama and they like to throw the ball so that sticks out to me.”

Prentice added he has no set commitment plan but “the goal is to pull the trigger before the season but we’ll see how that goes.”

As a junior, Prentice finished as the fifth-leading receiver in the county as he amassed 711 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 41 receptions before being ranked second-team all-county. When he hits the field this fall, he’s looking to top his stats as a senior. “I’m trying to go for 1,000+ receiving yards and hopefully catch a couple picks on defense this year.”

Prentice is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the 41st-best prospect in Alabama.
