With visits officially wrapped up, 2026 three-star wide receiver Lavar Keys is set to announce in less than a week.
Keys, a 5-foot-10 wideout out of DeMatha (MD), is set to announce on Sunday, Nov. 16 between a final group including Indiana, Kansas State and Maryland.
Kansas State was among the first schools to offer Keys after the three-star officially parted ways with Penn State, ending his year-long verbal pledge, as they’ve worked to catch up to the pair of Big Ten schools that have been involved for months: Indiana and Maryland.
Keys’ recruitment quietly took a twist back in June after taking an official visit to Bloomington the weekend of June 13 despite remaining committed to Penn State, giving the Hoosiers a chance to impress and secure momentum in his recruitment into his senior year. Keys then returned to Bloomington the final weekend of October in his first visit since decommitting with Indiana maintaining its strong presence in his recruitment. Keys was initially debating a late June official visit to Maryland before scrapping plans, but that proved beneficial to the staff’s long-term efforts.
Keys finalized his official visit to Maryland for the Indiana game the weekend of Nov. 1, one of two Stags on campus with safety Darrell Carey, who has since joined the class, also visiting days after decommitting from Penn State. With QB Malik Washington as his host and early playing time available with all three starting wide receivers set to exhaust eligibility following the 2025 season, Maryland was the last school to host him for a visit as they made their pitch.
“They’re showing me how they want to use me in the offense for real this time, go in-depth. They had Tai Felton last year and this year they showed me more of [Octavian Smith],” Keys said after his official visit.
Carey’s commitment initially gave Maryland its third consecutive cycle with one Stag in the fold, but Maryland will look to dethrone Indiana and land multiple players out of DeMatha for the first time since the 2018 cycle when DL Austin Fontaine and OL Evan Gregory committed on the same day.
