Yesterday marked the fourth offer for Jesuit (FL) and Team Tampa athlete Joquez Smith. The 5-foot-8, 190 pound prospect embarked on a trip up to College Park on Sunday with several teammates where he was able to check out the new facilities.
“I had told my mom that I wanted to visit Maryland then my 7-on-7 coach helped set everything up,” Smith told Inside the Black & Gold. “Seeing the locker room and weight room. It’s one of the best campuses I’ve seen.” That is high praise coming from him who has visited Ohio St, Georgia, Florida St, Cincinnati, Alabama, South Carolina and now Maryland.
Smith’s arrival to campus also landed him an offer from the Terps, joining West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Toledo early in his recruitment. Inside linebackers coach Brawley Evans is the one in charge of his recruitment and he explains his relationship with the staff.
“Coach Brawley is who I talk to the most and I feel like I have a great relationship with the coaching staff at Maryland.” The offer was made possible after Smith followed through with a visit, cementing his name on the Terps’ recruiting board. While Smith is familiar with the Terps, it was an offer he wasn’t expecting.
”I didn’t know, honestly. But it was really good. Had some real good conversations with the coaches up there, coach Brawley." It may also be early in Smith’s recruitment but he said a few teams are very consistent with him. “Cincinnati, Toledo, West Virginia and Maryland.”
Smith added he is looking to return to College Park this fall when the Terps kick off their 2021 season.
