Concordia Prep (MD) outside linebacker Sidney Stewart was already plenty familiar with the hometown program after assistant James Thomas led his recruitment into the spring, but after a month of flights and travel to complete his official visit, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker enjoyed the short trip and extended stay in College Park over the weekend. “I had a great experience, I had a lot of fun. Maryland man, it’s home,” Stewart told IBG. “I would just say it was a well-rounded trip. There was no highlight. If there was a highlight, sometimes there could be a downside or flip side but this visit was good the whole time.” Thomas spent the weekend with veteran defensive lineman Daniel Owens, someone he’s plenty familiar with through training under Dan Yarborough, an assistant at Concordia Prep and local DL trainer. “He’s funny. Especially energy-wise, D.O. lights up a room. Even if we weren’t cool, I feel like we would’ve got cool on the visit ASAP. He’s a great dude, honestly.” The relationship between Stewart and Thomas has been a driving force in his interest in the Terps through June. “He’s hilarious. We talk on the phone all the time so it wasn’t like it was anything new.” What did catch the defensive target’s eye was the time spent with head coach Mike Locksley. “We spent more one-on-one time than I thought. A lot of head coaches are kind of distant. Fortunately, throughout my process I messed with the ones that were willing to actually interact and was one of them.” Stewart also got a chance to sit down and spend time with James Thomas where he got a chance to see how he fits into Kellan Wyatt’s role. “I think it’s a good fit for me. I’m not a big fan of them but it’s bigger than that,” Stewart joked about playing the role led by a former MIAA rival.” If Stewart heads to College Park, playing with potential rivals could be something he sees more of after watching several top local targets make their way to College Park for their official visit this weekend. “It’s fun because I can actually tell which guys are genuinely good players. Malik’s a great player, great guy. He’s funny, great guy to be around. Shipps, it wasn’t his OV but he was messing with everyone there, cool dude. We had a great convo. We hooped a little bit too.” After taking official visits to Virginia Tech, Boston College and West Virginia before wrapping up with Maryland, Stewart confirmed he doesn’t plan to drag his recruitment out much longer. “I have some schools in mind. I’m going to go public with what I have going on June 29th.” Sidney Stewart is not yet rated by On3. Related Links
