'26 WR BJ Garrett sees fit in Maryland's receiver room during visit

2026 Middletown (DE) wide receiver BJ Garrett has made himself plenty familiar with Maryland through his high school career having visited College Park for both games and practices, but his latest trip to campus on Saturday gave the 6-foot-2, 190-pound wideout a chance to see how he fits into the Terps’ scheme. “I saw the way they ran their offense. Coach Gattis pulled me aside and we went over their scheme a bit so I understand what they do and how they operate,” Garrett told IBG. “He told me to watch .” Maryland jumped in with an offer back in early April as offensive coordinator Josh Gattis began tracking the Delaware athlete through his sophomore season. “It's very open and we're honest with each other so it's been going really well,” Garrett added. “I feel like I can be a big piece to the offense because even the way the receivers are integrated into the run game, I think I fit with what they do.” Saturday wasn’t all about football as Garrett added the highlight of the visit was “probably swimming”, but the chance to sit down with Gattis to learn more about the on-field fit cemented his early interest in the Terps. “I’m definitely pretty interested in them. I told them I'll come back up for a game or another visit,” Garrett added. Two days prior to his Maryland visit, Garrett took a return trip to Morgantown as West Virginia has made itself a familiar face in his recruitment over the last year. “They're doing a good job of keeping up with me. And I think they're a very efficient program, plus the bond that I have with them is good.” In addition to both Maryland and West Virginia, Garrett is eyeing fall gameday visits to Pitt, Duke and Buffalo. Garrett is not yet rated by On3, but posted just over 600 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 34 catches as a sophomore.
