25 Names to Know in Maryland's 2024 Recruiting Class

Maryland has only a handful of spots left in the 2023 class as they play the long-game with priority targets heading into the offseason. While the fall has been spent maintaining the relationships in the 2023 class, the staff has been active with their 2024 targets since the summer and have been on the road at times through the season to check in on their targets. Who are the names to know? We break down 25 guys to keep an eye on next cycle.

Michael Van Buren QB St Frances (MD): the jewel of the 2024 quarterback class for Maryland, no school has hosted the Baltimore product more than the Terps. Van Buren returned to campus over the weekend where he got an individual tour once more and was among the priority recruits to meet head coach Mike Locksley at midfield. Maryland should be in the consideration until the end, but Alabama is one to watch early. Oregon also impressed with their first visit a few weeks ago, but Alabama’s recruiting the St. Frances star as a similar fit and build to current QB Bryce Young. That has resonated early.
Aaron Chiles LB Good Counsel (MD): Just like Van Buren, no school has hosted Chiles more than Maryland. Since midsummer, his emphasis has been to visit out-of-state schools and has made it to Ohio State and Florida among others. A priority recruit who can shine as an inside linebacker at the next level. Outside linebacker coach James Thomas leading here.
Dilin Jones RB Good Counsel (MD): there’s arguably not a better running back in the WCAC than Jones. Georgia verbal and DeMatha running back Tovani Mizell might have something to say about that, but the versatility from Jones makes him a tough prospect to top. Jones has previously visited Maryland and also checked out the regional schools like West Virginia and Penn State. He has yet to return to campus this fall.
Elijah Moore WR Good Counsel (MD): Maryland last hosted Moore for a visit back on July 31 and since then, both James Thomas and wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer are in frequent contact. Moore might be one of the more underrated prospects locally and I expect his stock to rise through the fall into spring, but Maryland’s offense and relationships have them in the mix early.
Darien Mayo DE Good Counsel (MD): Maryland had done well identifying Mayo early and been able to get him on campus already this year. USC is another who jumped into the mix for the 6-foot-6 defensive end, but Maryland is in the mix early and part of a loaded crew from Good Counsel.
Kyle Altuner OL Good Counsel (MD): Maryland had a great shot at Altuner early in the process, but that’s died down as Penn State and West Virginia chatter has picked up. I might like the Nittany Lions early on in the process while other Big Ten and Power Five schools are in the mix, but Altuner was a frequent visitor last fall.
Gabriel Williams OLB Pallotti (MD) : The four star OLB has been to Maryland numerous times this offseason and you should be prepared to see him even more. He plans to commit in the spring though that could change with once wanting to pull the trigger in the winter. I LOVE where Maryland stands with him right now.
Trevor Szymanski OL Loyola Blakefield (MD): Trevor, the brother of currently committed to the Terps, AJ Szymanski, has been to Maryland multiple times this season already. OL coach Brian Braswell is leading the charge here an I like where the Terps sit early for the three star OL.
Brayden Lee CB Flowers (MD) : the Flowers product visited with his teammates back in the spring and failed to follow through on multiple potential visits to Maryland, instead visiting other out-of-state schools at times. I don’t like where Maryland sits with him early in the process.
Dominic Nichols DE Oakdale (MD): it’s Penn State then everyone else, but don’t tell Maryland that. The staff hasn’t given up efforts in the slightest and the local four-star prospect returned the favor by visiting for both the Michigan State and Purdue games with his family. Early in the process, this feels like Zakee Wheatley’s recruitment all over again with Maryland possibly finishing second, but the contact and focus on Nichols has picked up this fall.
Evan Austin ATH Oakdale (MD): teammate of Nichols, Austin visited for the Michigan State game where the staff was able to spend quality time with he and his family. Brewer also leading the way here with Maryland a prominent school to watch in his recruitment.
Jaylen Harvey OLB Quince Orchard (MD): the four-star prospect will be a frequent visitor at Penn State this season, but Harvey visited earlier this season and the staff stopped through Quince Orchard to check on him last week. The Nittany Lions are best positioned early as Maryland will look to reverse course.
Ify Obidegwu CB St Frances (MD): undoubtedly a candidate to become one of the most sought after defensive backs in the area let alone the country, Obidegwu has made it to Maryland over the years and is plenty familiar with the program having an older cousin once suit up for the Terps. Still, Maryland will have some work to do to alter the trajectory in his recruitment. Obidegwu was not slated to and did not visit Maryland last weekend with his teammates.
Edrees Farooq S St Frances (MD): Edrees, the younger cousin of Oklahoma WR Jalil Farooq, has been to Maryland at least three times this calendar year and is considered arguably among the nation’s top safeties in next year’s class. ILB coach Lance Thompson and safeties coach Wes Neighbors are leading the charge as they’re in the mix early, but will face a steep uphill battle to land the Baltimore star. Oklahoma is one to watch early for Edrees.
Kendrick Council LB Flowers (MD) : his basketball background elevated his regional profile and Maryland was among the first schools to offer Council. What helps the Terps’ chances is his and his family’s focus on academics and an interest in majoring in engineering, an obvious strength for Maryland. Council also hasn’t made it to campus recently, but Maryland is in the mix with him.
Mike Williams OT Flowers (MD): Maryland at one point looked to be the early landing spot to land Williams, who transferred from Rock Creek to St. Frances to Flowsrs this offseason. He’s the starting left tackle as a junior and has good size to stay as a tackle at the next level. Maryland sits well with him early but needs to get him back on campus. Williams said that it was Maryland who led early in his recruitment.
RB Gideon Ituka Gaithersburg (MD): Maryland is in a good spot for the MoCo running back early in the process. At 5-foot-9 yet nearing 230, Ituka has a good blend of quickness that complements his power and the staff has enjoyed strong mutual interest early in the cycle. Virginia and Pittsburgh are two more involved early in the process.
Daniel Coles ATH Brooke Point (VA): Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson is working on Coles, who play receiver or defensive back. Maryland was among the first schools to contact him on September 1 while Virginia Tech and Virginia are two schools that a prioritizing him early. Plenty to work out in his recruitment in terms of leaders and top group, but Maryland is building the relationship.
Fletcher Westphal OL Tuscarora (VA): Maryland is less than one week removed from checking out Westphal in person. Maryland was also among the first schools to jump in for the 6-foot-8 offensive tackle and once benefitted from being early, but as Westphal made the rounds in his recruitment, the Terps faded. Westphal will be one of the most coveted tackle prospects in the 2024 cycle as ILB coach Lance Thompson leads to keep Maryland in the mix.
Jordan Seaton OG St Johns (DC): when Maryland was the first offer, the Terps were doing well. Then came all the blue blood offers. Those continue to have his attention, but when Seaton made his way to campus weeks ago for the SMU game Maryland rolled out the red carpet for the projected guard.
Dylan Stewart OLB Friendship (DC): the top-five prospect was expcted to visit weeks ago but didn’t follow through, though the defensive staff including head coach Mike Locksley are leading the charge for the freakish defensive end prospect. Ohio State and Michigan were two frequently mentioned early while USC, Alabama and Georgia have all jumped into the conversation.
DD Holmes DE Gonzaga (DC): Maryland has been working on the DC phenom but the explosive yet reserved prospect hasn’t been active with visits dating back to the start of summer. Holmes has yet to visit campus this fall.
Chanz Wiggins WR King George (VA): One week ago, Wiggins wouldn’t have made the list as the Terps were among the long list of schools to jump into the mix, but a productive visit last weekend changed that. Brewer got an extensive chance to sit down with Wiggins and his mother as he builds the relationship with the priority recruit. Wiggins has been to Maryland a handful of times through the years, though he’ll draw a national pursuit for his final services.
Mason Wade OL Loudoun County (VA): Maryland brought in the Virginia offensive lineman for a visit for the Michigan State game where he got yet another look at the facilities and game. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson also stopped through Loudoun County to check out Wade’s game as the Terps are keeping tabs on the tackle. Expect Maryland to battle the regional schools for the guard target.
SAF Cam Richardson St. Peter’s Prep (NJ): It helps having his teammate in Champ Long already in the fold, but Richardson is among the priority targets from New Jersey next cycle. Richardson visited in the spring then again in the summer and cornerbacks coach Henry Baker has been able to build a strong relationship.
