While a handful of commits and targets were on campus for Maryland’s non-conference finale on Saturday, the staff also welcomed its last remaining 2024 signee back in College Park as William Penn (PA) offensive lineman Michael McMonigle made it in as a visitor for his first game of the 2024 season.
McMonigle inked with the Terps during the December signing period in 2024 but after suffering an injury that sidelined him for his senior season, he’s worked on getting back into form before he joins the team in January of 2025. He’s also added online classes this fall to get ahead of the academic process, but despite signing as a 2024 prospect, he’s capitalizing on the chance to get ahead while retaining all four years of eligibility.
“I think the biggest thing right now is just getting back into football shape because I’ve been running and stuff and lifting, working out but getting back in full shape is the big thing. Working on that and getting back into the swing of things,” McMonigle told IBG. “Technically I’m 100% right now, just have to get back into it fully and shake off the rust. My strength is back, my mobility was always there but my knee is feeling good. I’m fully cleared for full contact so I’ve just been helping my high school team coach this year.”
McMonigle was part of an eight-man class along the offensive line last cycle while the Pennsylvania native committed to Maryland over Syracuse after a pair of visits, including an official visit. With his recruitment now complete and college future already decided, McMonigle is focused on being able to hit the ground running once he arrives in College Park. Until then, he’ll look to return to campus as much as possible.
“I’ll be back for as many games as I can be.”
