2023 defensive back Adon Shuler made the final week of July a busy one for himself as he got a chance to see four schools. First up was a trip to Maryland on Sunday, then to Notre Dame on Tuesday, Boston College on Friday followed by Penn State on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete got a chance to see each school for the first time apart from Penn State, whose hosted Shuler twice so far. That didn’t stop Shuler from announcing a top three on Sunday night with Maryland, Notre Dame, and Penn State making the cut.
Shuler’s trip to Maryland wasn’t with the full coaching staff, but that meant he got to spend one-on-one time with cornerbacks coach Henry Baker during the trip. “The Maryland trip was actually great, very good. I seen the new facilities, I saw all the changes they made and team isn’t just rebuilding but the team is getting stronger,” Shuler told Inside the Black and Gold. “Me and coach Baker had a good relationship prior to meeting. We had a lot of conversations on the phone so it wasn’t as big of a deal to see him in person.”
Shuler was impressed with South Bend and head coach Brian Kelly during his trip. “It was good, every school is different. It was good to see the different areas, see who has what, who doesn’t. The coaches and I have a good relationship so it was good seeing them.”
Shuler rounded out his week where he reacquainted himself with the Nittany Lion staff, but was impressed with the atmosphere. “Lasch Bash was really cool, got to go see the coaches on the scavenger hunt. Got to see some of the commits in the 2022 class and some of the ‘23s. They had a crazy intro about Penn State so that was really nice.”
Shuler added that a pair of schools have done well building a relationship with him. “Notre Dame and Maryland did a good job of staying consistent. Penn State was more sparingly.”
Shuler is set to announce his commitment on August 15.
