Friendship Collegiate (DC) handily defeated Bishop McNamara (MD) on Saturday afternoon and none other than 2024 top-100 prospect Dylan Stewart who had a big game. Three sacks, forced fumble and a mainstay in the backfield, Stewart has shown flashes of taking the next step as the area’s next premier edge rusher. “My get off got faster, I got more technical with my moves and got better overall. I worked out with the school, our line coach all the time,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. Stewart, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound prospect, is looking at breaking the DC stat record for single-season sacks, but the versatile lineman lined up inside and out and was able to stifle McNamara’s passing attack nearly all day. Stewart is being evaluated as a defensive end or outside linebacker at the next level, while he fits into the JACK role in College Park. With offers from Miami, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, Florida State, USC and Notre Dame among others, Stewart was able to get out for a summer tour to visit several others. “Rutgers, Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, Georgia, Washington, Maryland,” he revealed. Stewart's phone will be buzzing on September 1 with schools all over the country reaching out, but it’s three who are showing the most interest early on. “Georgia, Maryland and Rutgers.” Stewart doesn’t have any plans to visit any specific games this season but hopes to visit Alabama on October 8 when they host Texas A&M. With him still 100% open in his recruitment, Maryland hosted the four-star on at least two visits back in the spring as defensive coordinator Brian Williams leads his recruitment. “Building a relationship with the defensive line coach and defensive coordinator. He’s cool. He acts like me, real laid back.” What’s Maryland’s big pitch early on? “I’m very versatile. I can get in space and make a play in pass rush.” With Stewart expected to become among the most coveted local prospects next cycle, he’ll have no shortage of options next season but he’s keeping his eye on Maryland’s front seven this fall with the Terps in pursuit. “See how their defense does because last year, their defensive line was up there.” Stewart is rated a four-star prospect and a 97 overall, sitting as the fourth-best prospect nationally and the top edge rusher in the 2024 class.
