2024 Receiver Eric Smith Recaps Second Visit to Maryland

September 1 marked the first day that college coaches could reach out directly to 2024 prospects and Varina (VA) receiver Eric Smith was among the new wave of recruits to gain contact. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound receiver heard from position and area coach Gunter Brewer. Just days later, he turned around to visit College Park for the season opening win. “Loved every bit of it, always feel the love when in College Park,” Smith told Inside the Black and Gold. Smith first made it to campus back in late June for 7-on-7 and a short trip through the facilities, but Saturday marked his first gameday experience where he took note of the offense. “Love the offensive scheme, love how they give guys like Rakim Jarrett the ball in space. I also took notice to the freshman Octavian Smith Jr, noticing that we are around the same size and body stature how they used me.” https://twitter.com/Drippye2/status/1567572273443258369 Smith and Brewer see similarities in his fit within Maryland’s offense. “Coach Brewer does see me resembling him and also a little bit of Rakim because of my explosiveness.” Smith has gotten to know Brewer prior to September 1, but he’s now able to build on it further with direct contact. “He was one of the first coaches to get in contact. For sure one of the most consistent and transparent coaches, me and coach Brew’s relationship is coming along very well.” Virginia Tech, East Carolina and Marshall have extended offers while Maryland jumped in on June 20, when Smith was first on campus. Since then, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Rutgers, East Carolina, Penn State, App State, Liberty, Coastal Carolina and Duke are among the schools that have reached out. Smith transferred from Manchester, the former home of Ramon Brown, to Varina this offseason. He is not yet rated by On3.
