Every game and every moment this season has led to this weekend. The Terps will look to complete the first undefeated season since 2006 and cement itself as one of the greatest teams of all time. Not only will Maryland god own in history, but John TIllman is hoping to change the narrative around his Championship Weekend struggles. While he has guided Maryland to the semifinals 9 times, he only has the one championship in 2017 to show for all his success. With a second championship trophy, he will sure elevate his status as one of the all time great coaches.
For the second straight week, Maryland will be facing an opponent they have played earlier this season. Princeton took the trip to College Park back in February and gave the Terps all they could handle. Maryland was able to come away with a 15-10 win, but the Tigers played them tough, especially considering they were down their starting face-off man. A lot has also changed since they last played. Princeton is hitting their stride offensively are peaking at the right time.
As just mentioned, when they previously met, Princeton did not have their starting face off man. Luke Wierman was able to dominate and gave the Terps plenty of extra possessions. That may not be the case this weekend, but I also said the same thing last weekend and Wierman was able to take over. But the Tigers were also able to keep the game relatively close with subpar face-off plays, so who knows what happens if they are able to make it closer to 50/50.
With Logan Wisnauskas the only Tewaaraton finalist still playing, he has all but locked up the award. However, the #1 overall pick in the PLL draft who will be joining the Chrome Lacrosse Club after Maryland's season is over would love to add National Champion to his list of honors and awards. He joined the team in 2018 so even with all the accomplishments he has achieved both personally and as a team, lifting the trophy on Memorial Day will elevate his status in lacrosse lore.
The game is scheduled to start at 2:30pm or 30 minutes after the end of the Rutgers/Cornell game on ESPN2.
