Maryland has added a big piece to its offensive line for next season.
Frostburg offensive tackle Gottlieb Ayedze has announced his transfer to Maryland, giving the offensive line an NFL prospect to fill one of three starting positions for next season.
Ayedze becomes the second portal addition along the offensive line this week after Corey Bullock flipped his pledge from Cincinnati to Maryland.
Ayedze, a Northwest (MD) graduate, was named an AFCA First Team All-American and All-MEC while becoming a second-team selection on the D2CCA Second Team. Ayedze was also invited to the Reese Senior Bowl with the potential of moving onto the 2023 NFL Draft, but he’ll now solidify Maryland’s blindside as head coach Mike Locksley and offensive line coach Brian Braswell address undoubtedly the biggest position this offseason.
Former high school teammate and new Maryland receiver Kaden Prather hosted Ayedze on his official visit to Maryland this past weekend alongside former Northwest head coach Mike Neubeiser as a guest. Maryland pounced on Ayedze after entering the transfer portal in late December with head coach Mike Locksley primarily leading the staff’s charge. Virginia Tech also hosted the 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman while Ohio State ramped up its pursuit down the stretch, but the Terps held the inside track from the beginning as they worked the close over the weekend.
Maryland was tasked with replacing three starters along the offensive line as Ayedze now fills the void left vacant by Jaelyn Duncan. Maryland was also in pursuit of Willis Patrick and landed Corey Bullock to fill the guard spot left vacant by Spencer Anderson. Maryland returns DJ Glaze and Mason Lunsford in 2023 while Coltin Deery will compete with Aric Harris for the starting center spot with Johari Branch moving onto the NFL.
Ayedze becomes the latest addition for Maryland in the transfer portal as the Terps have been an active player. Maryland has already signed Prather, cornerback Ja’Quan Sheppard, receiver Tyrese Chambers, offensive tackle Marcus Dumervil, defensive lineman Jordan Phillips, edge rusher Donnell Brown and safety Avantae Williams. Bullock has committed to Maryland but, like Ayedze, has not been announced by the program.
Ayedze has played in 32 games through four seasons and joins Maryland with one season of eligibility remaining.
