Young Terps: Maryland squanders road upset chance vs. Ohio State

Welcome back to the latest episode of the Young Terps podcast, where we recap what we right and wrong in Maryland’s 37-17 loss at fourth-ranked Ohio State. Was Maryland’s matchup against Ohio State a case of Maryland fumbling an upset? We dissect the game in Columbus.

Maryland had a chance to come away with the win and for the first 30 minutes, they looked like the dominant team. Maryland found themselves up 10-0 midway through the second quarter before quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa threw his first of two interceptions on the day, giving Ohio State a pick-six to get themselves on the scoreboard. But what about Taulia’s two interceptions were most concerning?

Maryland was able to respond with a quick, efficient drive to open the second half, retaking a 17-10 lead, before the Buckeyes scored 27 unanswered points en route to the Terps’ first loss of the 2023 season.

What went wrong in the second half? Was Maryland trying to do too much? Was Maryland’s fourth down attempt midway through the fourth quarter too early? We break down our instant reactions, plus highlight the key injuries both going into and coming out of Saturday’s loss.

With running back TreVeyond Henderson sidelined against the Buckeyes, we also take a look at how Maryland’s defense fared after squaring off against Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, a pair of future first-round picks.
