Young Terps: basketball back in the win column, football finale arrives

Welcome back to the Young Terps show, where we dive into the latest surrounding Maryland football and basketball.

Head coach Kevin Willard saw his team get back on track against UMBC on Tuesday night, pulling out a 92-68 win as Maryland was able to empty the bench late. Jahmir Young led the way with 20 points and was one of four to finish in double figures, while Deshawn Harris-Smith was able to find success around the rim and Julian Reese notched his second double-double of the season. But it wasn’t all pretty as Maryland’s perimeter shooting remains a concern, shooting under 30% from deep in the win, but what stuck out about the win?

Meanwhile, Maryland football wasn’t able to pull out the win against Michigan, but they’ll shift gears this upcoming weekend as they look to pull out their fourth win in five games against Rutgers with both teams entering the matchup 6-5. What does Maryland need to do to pull out the win? Who are the names to know? Maryland remains a one-point favorite heading into Saturday’s kickoff, but how do we see the Terps stacking up against the Scarlet Knights? We dive into the keys of the game and share our scores and predictions. Plus, we take a look at where Maryland should expect to play in a bowl game to close the 2023 season.
