Pa. IOL Kahlil Stewart commits to Maryland, breaks down decision

Maryland now has its second commitment in the 2025 class as St. Joseph’s Prep (PA) interior offensive lineman Kahlil Stewart has announced his decision.

Stewart, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman, gave the staff his verbal on Sunday before going public with his decision on Tuesday. The Philly native previously visited Maryland for a campus tour and spring practice before returning to College Park for the Illinois game during the 2023 season. Stewart had the Terps in his top group after his third visit to campus as offensive coordinator Josh Gattis and offensive line coach Brian Braswell teamed up as the area and position recruiter for the interior OL target.

“First off when I had my first visit there I just felt the environment fit me and my family. When my family came up there with me, they felt the same way,” Stewart told IBG. “The coaching staff always had been real with me and my family. Throughout this whole recruiting process, I’ve gotten to build good relationships with people at Maryland. It was the people.”

Stewart cited the consistency from both Braswell and Gattis over the last six weeks after building their relationship through the fall. “I would text [Gattis] every day, talk every day. We just had a good relationship with him and coach Locks. And the [offensive line] coach [Brian] Braswell, he would just talk to me every day.”

The offensive line target admitted Maryland began trending in his recruitment at the start of the new year after Gattis made the stop through St. Joseph’s Prep during the eval period. “They came to the school in the middle of January and then I started to build a deeper relationship with them.”

Stewart becomes the first pledge at a position that the staff put a premium on in the 2024 cycle with the Pennsylvania lineman committing to Maryland over verbal offers from Boston College, Duke, Virginia Tech, Kentucky and Penn State.

After being named a second-team All-Catholic selection following his sophomore season at Roman Catholic (PA), Stewart transferred to St. Joseph’s Prep where he was named a second-team Class 6A All-State and second-team All-Catholic selection as a junior.

Kahlil Stewart is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 19th-best prospect in Pennsylvania and the 64th-best interior offensive line prospect in the 2025 class.
