New Jersey Safety Staying in Contact with Maryland Heading into Spring

St. Peter’s Prep (NJ) safety Cam Richardson wasn’t able to venture to many schools over the fall with the 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect playing several of his own games on Saturdays. But Richardson made the trip to College Park with teammate and Maryland signee Champ Long for a Big Ten game with the staff still in pursuit.

“The relationship is decent at the moment. I like Maryland a lot,” he told IBG. Cornerbacks coach Henry Baker is leading his recruitment as Maryland looks to maintain its presence in New Jersey. “Definitely the staff there. Coach Baker has built a great connection with me and my family.”

Richardson was already able to familiarize himself with Maryland after visiting campus in late July for an on-campus barbeque, giving he and his family a chance to see a different side of the program. Now with the 2024 cycle picking up steam, Richardson is eyeing a top schools list to narrow his focus.

“I will have a top group of teams within the next week.” Will Maryland make it? “Maryland will be in it for sure,” Richardson added.

The projected three-star athlete stepped into a starting role for the first time in high school career as St. Peter’s finished 7-4 with Long leading the offense. Heading into his senior year, Richardson won’t prolong his recruitment as he builds off his success this past fall.

“A major goal for me is to get bigger and quicker with my feet. I feel as tho that would take my skill set to another level. I also want to commit before my senior season”‘

Richardson is not yet rated by On3.
