New Jersey Safety High on Maryland

St. Peter’s Prep (NJ) three-star safety Cam Richardson picked up an offer back in March from Maryland and has been in as much contact as he can with the staff prior to September 1, but he was able to get to know the staff on a different level during last month’s visit.

“I love the staff and everyone there.Building a great bond with coach [Henry] Baker and coach [Wes] Neighbors,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. “Most importantly the family vibe at maryland. You can tell that they genuinely care about you as a person instead of just you as a football player.”

Maryland has a pair of commitments out of New Jersey in the 2023 cycle with East Orange receiver Josh Richards becoming the second, but Richardson’s impression of Maryland has been accentuated with the fact that 2023 quarterback Champ Long has been in his ear about what the Terps have to offer. “Definitely I hope to be able to see a game this year.”

Maryland joins Boston College, Michigan State and Penn State as schools most consistent for him early on while Richardson thinks an early summer commitment could come to fruition. “The plan right now is to commit right before my senior season so around June hopefully.”

Until then, he’s looking to reassert himself in a talented St. Peter’s Prep secondary. Lining up primarily at safety, Richardson’s instincts and quick step helped him become a force along the back like but he’s looking to flash his versatility this fall.

“To show them that I am one of the best not only in the state but in the country. Show them that I can play anywhere in the secondary and make elite plays everywhere on the field. Also my physicality In the box and while playing the ball.”

Richardson is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 15th-best prospect in New Jersey.
