Maryland vs. Charlotte draws primetime slot on NBC

Maryland football will face plenty of familiar faces when they face Charlotte in week two of the 2023 season, but now, they’ll do so on national TV.

Maryland will host Charlotte for a 7:30 PM kickoff on September 9 on NBC, per Brett McMurphy.

Charlotte is led by first-year head coach Biff Poggi, who made his mark within the DMV after his storied career at both St. Frances and Gilman, where he also coached Mike Locksley’s son Kai. Former Maryland assistant Mike Miller joined Poggi as the program’s offensive coordinator back in December, while former St. Frances defensive line coach Wayne Dorsey has transitioned as the new defensive line coach, while former analyst Jerry Prutos made the offseason move to Charlotte.

Several former players will also get a chance to suit up against their former squad with TJ Butler, Zion Shockley, Joe Bearns, Austin Fontaine and Ja’Khi Green all transferring to Charlotte to close out their college careers. Former St. Frances standouts like running back Durell Robinson, wide receiver Randy Fields, wide receiver Jaden Bradley, defensive lineman Demon Clowney, defensive back CJ Burton, wide receiver Ike White, quarterback Jalon Jones, defensive lineman Katron Evans, defensive back CJ Burton and Eyabi Okie–formerly known as Eyabi Anoma–are among the long list of players looking to make an impact in year one under Biff.

Charlotte will look to give Maryland a scare inside SECU Stadium as Football Scoop recently named Poggi’s staff among the most impressive new staffs in college football.

Maryland opens the season with three games at home against Towson, Charlotte then Virginia before beginning conference play against Michigan State on September 23.
