Maryland trending for in-state lineman with official visit set

After Rock Creek’s football program shut down due to a lack of funding, the full team has made the transition to Riverdale Baptist to give the Crusaders arguably one of the best defenses in Maryland heading into the 2024 season. A big piece for Riverdale this fall is new defensive lineman Nahsir Taylor as he’s now in line to be the Crusaders’ top defensive lineman.

“It’s definitely a smooth transition. I’m big on loyalty so I know I’m going to follow my head coach wherever he goes,” Taylor told IBG. “I feel as though I’m going to come in and work to the best of my abilities and start game one.” The 6-foot-2, 255-pound interior lineman is still looking to add another ten pounds of muscle heading into the season while maintaining his explosiveness.

Taylor has established himself as a Power Four recruit with Syracuse, Temple, Marshall, Georgia, Wisconsin, Penn State, Notre Dame and Oregon all extending verbal offers through his junior year. Still, there’s one standing out above the rest.

“I’m still exploring my options but Maryland is at the top of my priorities,” Taylor told IBG.

Maryland has been in the mix with Taylor over the last six months and the in-state lineman was back on campus at the beginning of the month where he spent time with the coaching staff before taking in practice and then hanging out with the players. Assistants Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and Brian Williams have led the way into April while defensive GA David Brownlee has chipped in on recruiting efforts, giving Taylor a comfortable feeling with the home team.

“Just based on their coaches and how they run their practices. Just the energy and enthusiasm, I just love it. The campus is great, coach Locks is a good dude. I feel like the scheme I run [at Riverdale Baptist] is really similar to what they run, so it’s a smooth transition for me.”

Commitment plans are fluid as Taylor stays focused on getting his new defense squared away alongside Cortez Harris and Axavier Bridges-Brooks, but a few schools are in the mix for official visits right now: Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia Tech.

While others may get visits this summer, Taylor’s one and only official visit currently set up is to Maryland for the weekend of June 7 with the Terps trending.

“I feel good about it. It’s the top priority for me right now.”

Nahsir Taylor is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by On3, checking in as the 36th-best prospect in Maryland and the 76th-best defensive lineman in the 2025 class.
