Maryland Men’s Lacrosse Loses Second Player to Season-Ending Injury

Towards the end of the Terps 12-7 loss to the Greyhounds last Saturday, the Terps went to a 10-man ride to try and force more turnovers and comeback and win the game. At the time that choice was a good idea, however looking back at it, it was a choice that backfired for head coach John Tillman.

Starting goalie Logan McNaney, who won MVP during last year’s title run, suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2023 season. The veteran went down in the 12-7 loss while deflecting a pass out of bounds while the Terps were on the 10-man ride.

Through two games this season, McNaney was 1-1 with 17 saves and a goals against average (GAA) of 8.3. Last season for the Terps, McNaney had a save percentage of 60% and a GAA of 7.5. McNaney suffered just his second loss of his career in the loss at Loyola as he was 36-1 as a starter throughout his career.

While the Terps will be without arguably one of their most important players while they aim to defend their national championship, they will have an experienced goalie to back McNaney up in Teddy Dolan. Dolan is a grad transfer from Binghamton. Dolan was named the American East defensive player of the year in 2021 with a 58% save percentage, 9 GAA, and picked up 15 ground balls. Last season for BInghamton, Dolan had a 54% save percentage and a 11.3 GAA. Dolan a two year starter at Binghamton will now be turned to as the guy to lead the Terps back to the national championship in relief of McNaney.

Dolan will get his first start in net for the Terps in their next game against a former ACC rival in the Syracuse Orange. The game will be at SECU Stadium at 1pm on Saturday. The game will also be aired on BTN+.
