Maryland makes final three for four-star CB Blake Woodby

Fresh off his second and final official visit in June, St. Frances (MD) four-star cornerback Blake Woodby has narrowed down to a final three ahead of an expected summer commitment.

Woodby, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect, trimmed down to Auburn, Maryland and Oregon on Sunday. After parting ways with Ohio State in May, Woodby set up a pair of official visits with the first stop being a trip to Auburn where the Tigers have gradually made themselves a top contender in his recruitment. Woodby made the trip down to Auburn the last weekend of May before returning the following week for an unofficial visit alongside teammate and four-star LB Bryce Deas, who has since committed to Auburn.

But as expected, Woodby kept his recruitment open enough to follow through on his scheduled official visit the weekend of June 21 as the rapport between the four-star and assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim carries weight in the race. Abdul-Rahim and Woodby have a relationship dating back to “like fifth grade so he’s like family, for real.”

“It definitely helps because coach Justin [Winters], he was under coach Aazaar at the University of Maryland a few years back. So a lot of the stuff coach Aazaar teaches, coach Justin teaches the same thing. It’s definitely easier, everything is pretty much the same but coaches use different terminology and coach Justin, coach Aazaar use the same. Everything I heard, I’ve been hearing for years now,” he told IBG.

Woodby initially planned on officially visiting Oregon in late November ahead of his final decision during the December signing period, but the four-star told IBG that his official visit to Maryland would be his last prior to his commitment.

“Not really pressing when it happens though, just taking it all day by day.”

Blake Woodby is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, checking in as the seventh-best prospect in Maryland.
