Maryland Jumps Into the Mix for Four-Star with Local Ties

Maryland’s first commitment of the 2023 class came from Jahnathan Lamothe, a combo guard who suits up for St. Frances along with Team Durant. So when Maryland became the latest school to offer 2024 four-star forward Royce Parham this week, there was already a level of familiarity.

“I’ve talked with coach [Tony] Skinn before but coach Kevin Willard and Skinn called me,” Parham told Inside the Black and Gold. Skinn is leading the recruiting efforts for Team Durant because of his connections and Parham has enjoyed open dialogue in the beginning stages of his recruitment. “It’s been a great relationship with him. We talk a good amount.”

Parham breaks down what he knows about Maryland. “I’ve been waiting for them to offer. I know it’s a really good school, really good program, really coaches. They want me and I would fit into their system and they like how hard I work and how active I am.” Parham is also friends with four-star guard Jamie Kaiser, who became the second commitment in the class to maintain the Terps’ momentum on the trail. “I like how they have hometown kids coming and having that homegrown talent. They’ve added a couple of really talented guys and two guys that I know so it’s good to see that.”

Parham added that he doesn’t have any visits set up yet but knows of a handful of schools he’ll see. “I’m probably going to visit Wisconsin, probably Xavier and hopefully go up to Pitt and West Virginia.”

What’s he looking for when he visits schools heading into his junior year?

“How campus is and how the gym is, how everything is run and how practices are run.”

Parham is rated a four-star prospect and a 94 overall, sitting as the 53rd-best prospect nationally.
