Maryland guard Ike Cornish to enter transfer portal

Maryland guard Ike Cornish will enter the transfer portal, former AAU coach Dwayne Wise confirmed with IBG.

Cornish, a former four-star prospect in the 2021 class, saw action in 21 games through the 2022-23 season after redshirting during his first season on campus. He averaged 1.4 points in 4.9 minutes per game as a redshirt freshman.

Cornish signed with Maryland in what would be the final recruiting class that Mark Turgeon signed as head coach with Cornish joining Julian Reese and James Graham, who departed last season. Cornish battled injuries to open the season and struggled to find his role once Willard turned to a seven-man rotation.

“Ike [Cornish] is gonna get in the game. Ike pulled his groin last week before the Villanova game, missed three days of practice. Missed the Villanova game, missed the day after the Villanova game. So he missed four days of practice. Came back, you know, early last week and just now starting to get back to being in rhythm. So Ike’s just got to get out there,” Willard said back in November.

Cornish’s departure leaves Maryland with its second open scholarship for head coach Kevin Willard and the staff to work with this offseason as the staff has already been linked to a number of guards and big men with the portal list gradually growing.

Cornish enters the portal with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
