Maryland football well-positioned coming out of first official visit weekend

Maryland kicked off the weekend with buzz after DeMatha (MD) offensive tackle Terez Davis announced his commitment and Central Dauphin (PA) tackle Anthony Robsock kept it going with his pledge made public on Sunday morning.

Shortly after, Canadian linebacker Keyari James went public with his pledge after naming Maryland his top school last week. When James first visited back in early March, the Clearwater linebacker impressed just as much off the field as he’s done on the field. With one year of football under his belt, James gives the room an athletic inside ‘backer that can flourish at MIKE.

-I’m hearing that Maryland is in pole position for Cy Falls (TX) OT Samir Camacho. Camacho has scratched plans to officially visit Kansas and will head to Duke next weekend for his second visit. Texas A&M became the latest school to offer last week and immediately pushed to get him on campus, but I’m hearing the Aggies are on the outside-looking-in heading into the week.

-Maryland is also well-positioned for Norland (FL) three-star LB Jeremiah Marcelin. Marcelin made his first trip to campus this weekend and I’m hearing the high three-star prospect is considering not following through on his upcoming visits. Marcelin was scheduled to officially visit Louisville next weekend while Florida State is also in the mix, but defensive coordinator Brian Williams has done well in his recruitment. Keeping Marcelin as ‘warm’ for now but could be bumping him up to ‘hot’ once his visit plans—or lack thereof—are solidified.

-Michigan is widely viewed as the team to beat for Good Counsel four-star LB Aaron Chiles but confidence is high in College Park as the Terps rolled out the red carpet through the weekend. One weekend after unofficially visiting campus, Maryland impressed Chiles’ parents once again and hit the nail on the academic side of things while emphasizing his potential year one impact. Chiles will officially visit Florida this weekend before closing out the month with an official to Michigan, but the vibe coming out of the weekend is the Terps have made it a battle with the Wolverines heading into his July commitment.

-Freshman tight end Rico Walker hosted four-star WR Jonathan Paylor during this weekend’s official visit as the Terps look to dethrone the Gamecocks, while I’ve heard the NIL presentation was impressive for Virginia WR Mekahi White’s camp. I still expect White to follow through on his upcoming two official visits to Arkansas then Virginia Tech.

-Bonus: Chiles wasn’t alone as Good Counsel (MD) WR Elijah Moore made his way to campus on Saturday for an unofficial visit. Maryland is working to turn the tide that the Buckeyes have reclaimed following last weekend’s official visit and now, Florida State will host him for an official visit the weekend of June 23. For now, Maryland is off the table for an official visit with Moore this month, but even with plans to commit on July 4, the staff is preserving their official visit weekend for December. Four-star RB Dilin Jones is still on track to officially visit the weekend of June 23. IBG will be back at GC on Monday and have feedback from the four priority Falcon targets.
