Maryland football opens as slight favorite on the road vs. Nebraska

Maryland dropped its fourth consecutive game of the season after losing against ninth-ranked Penn State, 51-15, but they’ll be an early favorite heading into week 11 against Nebraska.

Maryland opens as a 2.5-point favorite on the road next weekend, according to FanDuel, with the over/under opening at 41.5 points.

Maryland has lost both matchups against Nebraska, outscored a combined 82-14, as head coach Mike Locksley lost the lone matchup against the Huskers in his first season as head coach.

Nebraska fell to 5-4 (3-3) after falling to Michigan State, 20-17, in East Lansing on Saturday, ending a three-game winning streak after topping Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue.

Similar to Maryland, turnovers told the tale for the Huskers on Saturday after three turnovers, including a pair of interceptions, loomed large in the road loss.

While Maryland lost the turnover battle against Penn State, 4-0, turnovers told the tale for the Huskers as they moved back to .500 in conference play.

“Disappointed. Just wasn’t our best game today, I think all across the board,” Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said postgame. “We didn’t tackle the way we normally do. We gave up some big plays. … And then offensively in the second half we couldn’t get anything going. Proud of the guys’ effort.”

As for Maryland, 17 consecutive completions from Taulia Tagovailoa may be the lone bright spot from the Terps’ latest deflating loss, though the veteran quarterback ultimately accounted for two of the team’s four turnovers.

“Give Penn State credit, top ten team. They came in here and kicked our butts and we got outplayed and outcoached. We didn’t make plays in any of the three phases that we’re going to need to make consistently. With that being said, we still sit here with five wins with an opportunity to get to six. It’s not going to be an easy task. We’ve got to rally the troops we’ve got to remain really close knit as a team and understand that the only people that can fix it are us. Can’t look for opponents to give us anything. We can’t look for help from outside. We’ve got to just make the decision that you know we’re going to keep doing the work. We’re gonna keep showing up. We’re going to Lincoln and put together a good plan and try to figure out a way to get number six on the road.”

Kickoff is set for 12 PM EST on Peacock, marking Maryland’s first game on the network.
