Maryland Checks In On Local 2024 Guard

Maryland jumped into the mix for 2024 St. John’s (DC) guard Daquan Davis over the summer and with coaches able to hit the trail exactly one week ago, the staff was in to check on the local target on Thursday.

Davis said that Penn State, St. Joe’s and George Washington have all been by while Charleston came by on Thursday. Assistant coach David Cox also made his way into the Cadets’ gym as he and Davis have been able to build on their relationship. “It’s been pretty good. He’s been reaching out here and there, checking on me. He’s been trying to connect with me more, build a relationship with me,” Davis told Inside the Black and Gold. “I think he wants me to come on another visit, but an official this time.”

Davis unofficially visited Maryland with top-50 teammate Donnie Freeman over the summer, but what does Davis think about an official visit to the hometown school? “I’ll do it. It’s the hometown so why not?” Davis becomes the latest recruit for head coach Kevin Willard and the staff to keep closer to home and he’s taken note. “I like how everybody is engaged with me when I came, everybody showed love, everybody made me feel welcomed.”

What would Maryland need to show Davis on the visit? “I would just want to see a practice. Just see what they do, how the players are, how things are run.”

While Davis doesn’t have a timeframe for his next visit to Maryland, he’ll check out three schools in the next couple of weeks. “I’m going to Penn State on October 1 and I’m going to Indiana on October 7, then I’ll go to Butler.”

He’s also expecting more schools to stop by St. John’s to check on him. “I know Butler is coming down. Mississippi State plans on coming down, Xavier coaches reached out to me so maybe they’re coming down.” Since the contact period began for 2024 prospects earlier this summer, Davis has enjoyed being able to communicate with coaches more freely. “I like it. I like that they’re making me feel welcome, want me at their school. I like to talk to them then let them talk to my parents.”

He is not yet rated by On3.
