Maryland bolsters trenches, adds Georgia IOL Aliou Bah, flips Penn St verbal Alan Herron

While Maryland still waits for more good news along the offensive line from the high school ranks, fans officially received word on a pair of transfer linemen that the staff has been well positioned for in recent days.

Maryland has announced the addition of Georgia lineman Aliou Bah, along with the flip of Shorter OT Alan Herron.

Bah, a 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman originally from Memphis, joins the program with three years of eligibility remaining and gives the unit a viable option to compete for the vacant guard spots. Bah was initially committed to Florida State but signed with the Bulldogs as a high three-star prospect out of IMG Academy (FL) in the 2022 class, enrolling early in Athens before redshirting during the 2022 season. He appeared in three games in 2023, both at guard and tackle, before announcing his decision to transfer on December 11. It didn’t take long for Maryland to pounce on the Tennessee native as wide receiver Gunter Brewer set the stage for the visit before offensive line coach Brian Braswell took over down the stretch. Bah took an official visit to Maryland beginning Dec. 14 alongside his aunt and uncle just three days after entering the portal as the staff was able to secure his commitment by the end of his visit.

Maryland hosted Herron for a visit over the weekend and, despite his commitment to Penn State, the staff never gave up as offensive line coach Brian Braswell led the way with his in-roads at Herron’s school. Herron, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound junior, started every game over the last two seasons at tackle and was rated the 19th-best offensive tackle in the transfer portal, according to On3. After signing with Maryland over 30 offers, Herron joins the program with two years remaining and gives Maryland a potential starter at tackle.

Maryland will lose multiple starters along the offensive line in 2024 with all eyes still on DJ Glaze’s stay-or-go decision heading into the bowl game. Still, the addition of Bah gives Maryland a long-term option to build around as the latest signing haul is the latest shred of evidence of the premium the staff put on the position this cycle.

Aliou Bah and Herron becomes the fourth and fifth portal commitments for Maryland this offseason, joining QB MJ Morris, IOL Josh Kaltenberger and CB Jalen Huskey.

Maryland has also announced the signing of both MJ Morris and Jalen Huskey, two early portal targets who jumped on board after their official visits. Morris has three years of eligibility remaining, while Huskey has two years remaining.

“I’m really excited about these additions to our football program,” said Locksley. “We were able to address areas of need where these guys will provide some depth, but also have a chance to compete to play right away. I love that each player has multiple years of eligibility remaining so we’ll have a chance to really bring them into our football family, develop them and give them a chance to make a long-lasting impact as a Terp.”
