Maryland baseball hosts Bryant in weekend series

Maryland Baseball will play their first weekend home series of the season this weekend when the Bryant Bulldogs come to College Park. Here is a preview of the upcoming series:

Where We Are:

Maryland

The Terps suffered a tough loss on Wednesday at VCU, 15-7. A 12-run seventh inning for the Rams blew the game wide open, and Maryland fell to 6-3 on the season.

Bryant

Bryant has only played five games due to two of their games at UCF being rained out. They dropped two out of three at George Washington last weekend, before losing to Stonehill on Tuesday. Last season, Bryant finished 26-24 and 12-12 in league play.

Weekend Schedule:

Friday – 4:00: Austin Wainer vs Kenny Lippman

A senior from Johns Creek, Georgia, Wainer is in his fourth season with the Bulldogs. He appeared in 17 games last season while making two starts. He was excellent down the stretch last season allowing just six runs in 23.1 innings. It’s been a shaky start for Wainer this year, as he has been unable to get out of the fourth inning in each of his two starts this season. Lippman threw five against Texas A&M Corpus Christi last Friday night en route to a 7-5 Maryland win. He’ll be making his third start of the season.

Saturday – 2:00: Luke Delongchamp vs Logan Koester

Delongchamp is in his first season with Bryant after spending two with Boston College. He pitched in 13 games for the Eagles across the last two seasons. He’ll be making his second appearance of the season after going three and two-thirds in a start last Saturday against George Washington while only allowing one run. Koester will be making his third start for the Terps. He threw five solid innings against Pittsburgh last Sunday holding Pitt to just three runs. He’ll look to remain undefeated on the season.

Sunday – 1:00 Tyler Horvat vs Joey McMannis

After spending three seasons at DIII Washington and Jefferson, Horvat has joined Bryant for his graduate season. He was a three-time All-American at W&J going 29-4 in his career with a 2.71 ERA. He’ll look for better results than his last outing when he was rocked by GW, allowing five earned runs in just three and a thirds innings. The first rotation shuffle of the season for Maryland will come Sunday when Joey McMannis will take the ball. Meade Johnson had gotten the past two Sunday starts. A freshman from Emmittsburg, McMannis has thrown six innings of scoreless relief so far this season while allowing just two hits.

Hitters to watch:

Bryant is led by Gavin Greger, a sophomore off to a scorching hot start. He is 10-20 at the plate with 9 RBIs to start the new season. They are also led by Gavin Noriega, who has hit five home runs already this year, and has homered in 4 of 5 of Bryant’s games so far. Another name to look out for for the Bulldogs is shortstop Justin Hackett, who is hitting .389 so far this season. For the Terps, Sam Hojnar continues to scorch, after hitting his second home run of the season on Tuesday. Alex Calarco also homered on Tuesday. Eddie Hacopian continues to hit for Maryland out of the leadoff spot, with his average up to .414. He is, however, still looking for his first home run of the season.

All three games will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus. All Maryland Baseball games are free to listen to on the Maryland Baseball Network.
